Grown, dried and processed into pellets by the only organic hop grower in Poland, organic Magnat hops are a bittering variety.
It is sold in 5 kg bags, vacuum-packed under inert gas (CO2).
It is one of the most recent varieties from the IUNG Institute in Poland, released in 2016, from a selection made by U.Skomra; it is a daughter of the German variety Magnum.
Magnat is a high-alpha-acid variety (10 to 16%).
It is said to be on the way to becoming the main hop grown in Poland, replacing Magnum.
It is increasingly popular for export, with brewers appreciating its bittering and aroma qualities and its affordable price.
Use Magnat hop pellets for bittering but also for aroma, to develop rather classic, European aromas.
Its very high linalool content (11 µl/100 g) and its myrcene content give it notes of:
- Floral: lilac and lily of the valley.
- Resinous, pine
From an agronomic point of view, it has many advantages:
- Moderate resistance to powdery mildew
- Good resistance to downy mildew
- Clings well to the string
- Small cones, easy to harvest, which reduces drying time.
These advantageous characteristics make Magnat a popular variety among growers.
