How the example is calculated: base price = first-quarter price, at the first tier (Cascade 30,00 €, Chinook 32,00 €, Magnum 26,00 € excl. VAT per kilo); prices paid = curves above, weighted by the kilos of each quarter; Magnum on a 3-harvest contract in the second year, at 24,00 € instead of 26,00 €. Percentage: saving ÷ amount at the base price.

Typical rates: about 200 g/hL for a blonde (bitterness and aroma), plus dry hopping for hoppy beers, from 4 to 8 g per litre (Lafontaine and Shellhammer, Oregon State University), and up to 1 to 2.5 pounds per barrel for a NEIPA (Craft Beer & Brewing). Benchmark: 1.51 pounds per barrel in 2022 among American craft brewers, i.e. about 584 g/hL (Brewers Association). Your actual usage depends on your recipes.
